Bauble: (bô’bəl) n. A small, showy ornament of little value; a trinket. (from The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language).  Bauble necklaces have officially made the leap from being trinkets to legitimately gorgeous key pieces in anyone’s jewelry wardrobe.  The word baubles now conjures up an image of a bright, rotund, attention-seeking adornment for the neckline.  These bauble necklaces offer a range of baubliciousness from Kate Spade’s elegant black bib to J Crew’s citrusy candy-like piece.  Pick your favorite–ornaments and trinkets like these have never looked better!

Outfit: Leopard Print with Dark Hues

It turns out that I packed one outfit too many on my weekend trip to Chicago because I only got to wear one of them! The weather wasn’t cooperating but we made the most of it by sticking to indoor activities. Two highlights of my trip were brunch at Lula Cafe (one of the tastiest brunches I’ve ever had – thanks Marian!), and the Jellyfish Exhibit at the Shedd Aquarium.

I picked an outfit combo that would not only work with the awful weather but also look put together. I recently got this leopard print scarf from J.Crew and have wanted to experiment with ways to incorporate it into an outfit. I love how the print looks with maroon and black — the dark tones make the leopard print pop. On a side note, I don’t know what’s going on with my scarf wrapping in the first picture — I clearly need to watch Wendy’s scarf video again! There are many more ways to wear such a classic scarf, including pairing it with the standard denim and white, which always looks nice.

Packing List: Windy City Wardrobe

I’m off to Chicago for a three day weekend! See above for close approximations of what I’m taking with me. I need to construct 3 outfits out of these pieces: comfy travel, chic tourist, and trendy going out.

Also, I’m excited to be taking out my Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac in Dusty Rose for the first time. Sadly, I think this color might be sold out but check out some other fun colors.

Bronzer from the Block

Want Jennifer Lopez’s golden bronze look?  Search no further: one of the key players in her typical look is Bronzer.  I know that doesn’t sound ground-breaking but it’s all about how she uses the bronzer–placing it as a saturated layer right beneath a light sweep of blush.  It gives her that flushed, sun-kissed look that many crave.

My favorite bronzer-as-blush was limited edition from MAC (as many of their best products are-hmph). It’s called Solar Riche Bronzing Powder from Mac’s Style Warrior Collection:

Since I’m almost running out of this amazing bronzer, I’ve had to search far and wide for a good substitute.  So far, I’ve been trying out Dior’s Bronze Original Tan Amber Tan 03NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna, and Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder.  What’re your favorite bronzers-as-blush?
