The combination of MAC’s Fix+ and mineral powder makeup produces such a natural-looking and light-feeling finish–perfect for summer!
As warmer weather approaches, I’ve started to make my seasonal switch over to mineral powder makeup. In the dry winter months, I use tinted moisturizer or foundation, but in the summer, I switch to powder foundation because the liquid-based makeup feels too heavy and icky on the skin in the heat. However, powder makeup doesn’t stick very well to bare, clean skin so my secret is to use MAC Fix+ Spray. I know that this product is really meant to be a setting spray to utilized for a finishing touch, but I actually use it on my skin as a base to buff my mineral powder foundation into. Two spritzes are enough to cover the face with a fine mist that helps powder makeup set and last throughout the day (any more than two spritzes and you might end up with greasy-looking skin):

Recently, I ran out of my beloved MAC Fix+ Spray in Rose (it was limited edition but you can get Fix+ in the plain variety all the time at any MAC store or counter) so I researched some other options. It turns out that the Body Shop also makes a rose-based spray that’s meant to be used as a makeup finishing spray–it’s called the Vitamin E Face Mist. Since it got such good reviews, I immediately went out and bought one:
I used the Body Shop’s Vitamin E Face Mist in place of the MAC Fix+ for about a week. The final verdict? Nothing beats the MAC Fix+. The Vitamin E Face Mist was cool and soothing to the skin but it was so watery-feeling that it just didn’t provide the base needed for powder makeup. I think I’ll keep using it for a skin pick-me-up once in awhile but it didn’t make it into my morning makeup league of champions.
